ACTIVITIES & FACILITIES

There are a number of activities offered here at Vingerklip Lodge, from short walks here in the reserve to day trips into surrounding areas. If there is a trip or hike you would like to do but do not see it on our list, please ask us and we will see what we can do. We always try to be as flexible as possible.

There are several different walking trails around Vingerklip Lodge, both guided and un-guided, but nevertheless all walks are well marked and can be done on your own if you prefer to be by yourselves, we do however recommend walking in groups of at least two persons.

NEW!!! - Touch Of Heaven Bungalow (N$1 350 per person including dinner and breakfast in Eagles Nest Restaurant.)

Please note:
This relaxing and exclusive accommodation is only accessible via a short mountain walkway and a 25m Metal staircase. So it is not something for people with extreme fear of heights or serious walking difficulties.

NEW!!! - Eagles Nest Restaurant
Eagles Nest Restaurant high above the Lodge on the Ugab Terraces is reachable within 10 min. walking. The view from here is a breathtaking experience!

Vingerklip walk and Vingerklip extension - (No charge)
The first two are a long and a short hike to the famous Vingerklip (Rock finger). The shorter trail takes you directly from the Lodge to the Vingerklip. This is usually a guided walk on which the guide talks about the area and departs from the reception area at 7am, but this walk can be done any time of the day if you would like to do it by yourself and takes about an hour to complete. The extension of this walk takes you around the North terrace and then to the Vingerklip, this takes about 2 hours to complete.

South Terrace hike - (No charge)
The third trail is a walk for those who enjoy geology and takes you on a trip around the South Terrace where you can see the spectacular way these terraces have been formed. On your walk there is a small detour which you can take to our View Point to see the lovely scenery which is unique to this area. This trail takes about one and a half hours to complete.

Joint Terrace hike - (No charge)
The fourth trail is for people who want a longer walk, this trail combines two of our trails which takes you around South Terrace, then about halfway along the trail there is a path that joins the extension of the Vingerklip walk, going around the North Terrace and then to the Vingerklip taking you back to the Lodge. This hike takes about 3 and a half hours to complete.

Ugab Hike – (N$20,00 per person)
This is again a trail for more serious hikers without a fear of heights. It takes us up on top of the Ugab Terraces which you can see from the Jacuzzi area. This is a guided walk only as the way up is not always easy to find due to rain and animals destroying the pathways. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on the path conditions.

Sundowner Drive – N$80.00pp – please book at reception
A drive in our reserve with a chance to see some animals but guaranteed to see beautiful landscape, and just to enjoy nature while watching the sun set with a glass of champagne.

Himba Village tour (please book evening before) - ( N$1050,00 per person (Min. 2 pax, Max. 6 pax)
This is a day trip taking us to a Himba village not yet spoilt by western influence. Showing us how these remarkable people have survived against the tests of nature, as well as how they go about there daily life. The particular village which we visit is actually a type of Himba orphanage, by Himbas for Himbas, the first of its kind. But let me not spoil it by telling you too much, as words cannot express the ever-lasting impression..

Bushman Art - (N$150,00 per person)
A 2 hour trip to a nearby farm taking us to see some remarkably well preserved rock art, as well as beautiful scenery. The farmer then accompanies us and tells us about farm life as well as explains his view on the art.

Twyfelfontein and Etosha National Park (please book evening before) - (N$950.00 to N$1200.00 per person (Min. 2 pax, Max. 6 pax)
Day trips to the mentioned attractions can be arranged if you feel you want to relax and not drive yourself, after all, you are on holiday.
